Rickmers extends share of Hamburg terminal to secure space

2007-11-8

Rickmers-Linie and terminal operator Wallmann & Co. are extending a cooperative in the port of Hamburg that will see Rickmers-Linie take a 25.1 percent share in the Wallmann Terminal, effective Jan. 1, the companies said Tuesday

Rickmers said it wants to secure terminal capacity for handling breakbulk, heavy lift and project cargo in its home territory.

Wallmann & Co handles vessels employed in Rickmers' Round-The-World Pearl String Service with twice-monthly sailings to Asia, as well as ships departing to and from the Middle East and India every three weeks.

Rickmers and Wallmann have partnered since 1991, when the German carrier started its service to the Middle East. Vessels employed in the Pearl String Service have been calling at the Wallmann Terminal since beginning of 2003.
