Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg OJSC has signed an agreement with an international company Royal Haskoning for designing of a container terminal at the site of Forth Stevedoring Company, the port's press center informs. Royal Haskoning had won a tender held by Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg. The company used to design container terminals for leading operators in the largest ports of the world. According to the tender terms, Royal Haskoning will cooperate with Lenmorniiproject, Russia's leading design institute in the sphere of hydraulic engineering.
New container terminal is to be built within the framework of the Program for St. Petersburg seaport development. Investments into the project implementation to total $364 million. Design and survey work will be commenced thisyear. The schedule for 2008 envisions ordering of equipment and beginning of the terminal's first phase construction. The first phase is to be put into operation in 2009. By 2012, it is planned to reach the design capacity of 1,400,000 TEU per year.
