Port of Qinhuangdao builds container terminal

The north eastern Port of Qinhuangdao has started building the New Harbour Container Terminal, which is to raise the port's container throughput to 1 million TEU by 2010, Xinhua reported.

The container terminal is jointly developed and operated by Qinhuangdao Port Group, which holds 55 per cent of the terminal, China Shipping Terminal Development Co Ltd, which holds 33 per cent and Dalian Port Container Co Ltd, which holds 15 per cent.

Port of Qinhuangdao's throughput has doubled in the recent three years. It handled 200,000 TEU in 2006 and is served by seven container shipping lines.
