Horizon Air has released a modified firm schedule that is expected to stay in effect Tuesday, Sept. 18, through Monday, Sept. 24. The schedule, which brings Horizon's number of flights back up to more than 90 percent of normal, will allow the airline to complete the inspections of the Bombardier Aerospace Q400 turboprops in its fleet, as per Transport Canada and Bombardier specifications. Beginning Sept. 25, Horizon hopes to resume its regular schedule.
The aircraft inspections are in response to a Transport Canada airworthiness directive (AD) issued Sept. 12. Transport Canada's AD was produced in the wake of two landing gear failure incidents involving SAS-affiliated airlines in Europe. Horizon, which has operated the Canadian-manufactured Q400 since 2001, has never experienced any issues like those SAS recently encountered.
Horizon flights canceled Tuesday, Sept. 18, through Monday, Sept. 24:
