The US Port of Los Angeles has extended the public consultation period for the proposed expansion of the TraPac Container Terminal project to September 26, bringing the total public comment period to 90 days.
The extension was given so that the public has more time to read, comprehend and comment on the nearly 6,000-page proposal, a statement from the port said.
The US' largest port seeks to expand and modernise the TraPac container terminal at berths 136-147 in Wilmington, California, and upgrade existing wharf facilities, add an on-dock rail yard, and install a buffer area between the terminal and the community.
The proposed project includes a 30-year lease and would involve two phases of construction from 2008-2015 and 2015-2025.
