Thai Airways International has appointed European Cargo Services (ECS) as its exclusive cargo GSA partner in Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
The move is intended to expand the carrier's off-line sales in central and eastern Europe, an ECS statement said.
"Thai Airways recognises the growing importance and potential of the central and eastern Europe markets. This area is showing increasing volumes of inbound and outbound cargo and that is why we already have a presence in eight countries in the region to support online and offline airline customers who want to maximise freight revenues," said ECS president Guy Tordjman.
ECS Globe Air Cargo offices in the region expect to generate more than 1,000 tonnes of cargo each year for the airline. This cargo will connect into Thai Airways' network via its twice-daily Boeing 747-400 passenger services from Frankfurt and daily passenger flights from Munich in Germany.
In addition to the 15 tonnes capacity available on each flight, ECS Globe Air Cargo will generate freight for the airline's three-times a week Boeing 747 freighter services from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. ECS is also Thai Airways cargo GSA in France.
"We have strong confidence in the expansive network of ECS. We believe there is a significant amount of sales volume in these markets that Thai Airways can gain a share of and we have chosen ECS, with its strong sales presence, to expand our revenues from these off-line stations," said Arthorn Dhamabutra, Thai Airways cargo and mail manager for Europe and Africa.
ECS is a network GSA organisation with 60 offices in 25 countries. Representing 109 airlines, ECS reported annual sales in 2006 of EUR269 million (US$366.05 million) from the generation of 360,000 tonnes of cargo for its airline clients. |
