Airbus recently finished making its last wide-body twin-engine A300 aircraft and delivered it to FedEx Corp.
"Delivering the last A300 is an emotional moment and a natural evolution in the Airbus family," said Airbus vice president Charles Champion.
The A300 started life in 1969, entering Air France service in 1974. The A310 was then built in 1978 with a two-man glass cockpit. Lufthansa and Swissair were first buyers in 1983, according to an Airbus statement.
Airbus has built 821 of them, and sold them to a third of Airbus customers. Some 200 of the 650 they made are still flying and expected to remain in service into 2025. FedEx has 120 of them.
