35% of AAI staff take up offer of Mumbai airport operator
POSTED: 9:42 a.m. EDT, July 10,2007

Close to 35 per cent of the employees of Airports Authority of India (AAI) working at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai have opted for the fresh offer of employment made by Mumbai International Airport Ltd, the promoters undertaking the modernization of the airport.

¡°115-120 employees of the 355 employees who were eligible for the offer have opted for it. We will come up with more such offers as and when the need arises. The timing or number of employees that would be offered the scheme in the future is yet to be firmed up,¡± an official spokesman of MIAL told Business Line. Officials were unwilling to comment on the cost of the package or how much more each employee was likely to receive. MIAL is a joint venture between the GVK grow up, the South Africa Airports and Airports Authority of India (AAI).

There are more than 2,470 AAI employees working at CSIA and the new operator has to employ at least 60 per cent of these employees within three years of taking over operations. MIAL took over the operations of CSIA last May.
