Express delivery firm, TNT Express, has promoted Chris Spanjaard to the position of director of Operations for southeast Asia as part of the company's strategy to boost its network connectivity between Europe and Asia and achieve 10 to 15 per cent revenue growth for 2007.
Mr Spanjaard will be responsible for future expansion plans and in extending capabilities in southeast Asia to provide specialised solutions for vertical sectors such as life science and hi-tech. He has been with TNT for eight years. Mr Spanjaard moved to Asia in 2002 to take on the role of senior manager of operations and network development for TNT's China mail division, a company statement said.
To strengthen the company's intra-Asian and domestic networks, TNT is expanding its Asia Road Network to reach China through the north-eastern border of Vietnam by the end of 2007. When completed, it will cover almost 60 per cent of the region and link over 120 cities across 4,000 kilometres.
In addition, the acquisition of Speedage in India and Hoau in China last year has also increased the number of depots and vehicles in the region by more than 1,200 and 4,000 respectively.
