A farmer in Qingdao, Shandong Province, has had to live in a shipping container for several years after spending more than 1 million yuan ($130,000) helping poor students.

The 52-year-old, surnamed Wang, earned his fortune by managing a small restaurant in 1993. Over the years, he has supported more than 740 poor students and helped a dozen complete university studies. He set up three primary schools in the province. In contrast to his lavish generosity, Wang lives a simple life.
