FOUR Bulgarian airfreight carriers, Air Sofia, Bright Aviation Services, Heli Air Services, Skorpion Air and Vega Airlines, have failed to meet European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards and will forfeit their licences from Bulgaria's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), reported Dnevnik, the Bulgarian news agency.
The carriers have two months to rectify their operational deficiencies, at an estimated cost of EUR3.5 million (US$4.6 million). Heli Air is said to be have been permitted to operate one of its aircraft aircraft and Skorpion can continue training pilots.
Bright Aviation may register its fleet in a non-EU state, said company executive Sergei Petkov. The other option is to liquidate the business. Vega Airlines executive director Ivan Ivanov said it will sell its six An-12s to buy a Boeing jet that it would likely register in Bulgaria. Air Sofia executive director Lilian Todorov refused to say what steps will be taken by the management in the aftermath of the ban. |
