Shenzhen's Chiwan-Mawan container volume up 3.2pc in May

SHENZHEN Chiwan Wharf Holdings (SCWH) has posted a 3.2 per cent cargo throughput increase in May from its two port areas, Chiwan and Mawan, lifting a total of 452,000 TEU, Logistics Week reported.

But Chiwan port area's volume fell 7.9 per cent to 337,000 TEU year on year while the two port areas handled 4.52 million tons of general and bulk cargo, down 2.1 per cent with bulk cargo decreasing 41.5 per cent to 512,000 tons.



At the same time Chiwan and Mawan's box volume from January to May came to 2.31 million TEU, up 18.6 per cent year on year with Chiwan accounting only for 1.68 million TEU, slightly up 0.9 per cent.



In the first five months, the two port areas' cargo volume increased 16.4 per cent to 23.61 million tons, but bulk fell 12.9 per cent to 2.87 million tons.
