UAL experiences 4.2pc cargo ton miles drop in May

United Airlines has reported that the cargo ton miles carried in May fell to 166,463,000, a 4.2 per cent drop over the same month last year.

Mail ton miles fell 42.6 per cent year on year to 17,428,000 while airfreight rose four per cent to 149,035,000 ton miles last month compared to the May 2006 payload.



Last May, revenue ton miles declined by 0.3 per cent to 1,187,504 on the back of a 7.6 per cent year on year decrease in total available ton miles to 1,785,576.



Year to date, total cargo ton miles dropped 7 per cent compared to the same period a year ago to 800,203,000 ton miles.



Within this total, mail ton miles shed 48.7 per cent year on year to 81,238,000 while freight rose 2.4 per cent over the same period in the previous year to increase to 718,965,000 ton miles.
