Hong Kong's OOCL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Orient Overseas (International) Ltd, has announced that it has been ranked among the top five carriers in an "Ocean Carrier Documentation Performance Survey" of 21 container lines.
The survey, conducted by the North American Agriculture Transportation Coalition, ranked the ocean carriers by their ability to provide timely and accurate bills of lading.
The main purpose of the confidential survey is to help encourage carriers to improve their performance in the area of bills of lading.
Coalition members were asked to assign a number from one to four that reflects their experience with the documentation practices of the carriers with whom they ship.
A carrier received a No 1 rating for dependably providing accurate and timely bills of lading documentation; and a No 2 rating for being usually strong in this area "but not dependably accurate or timely". The worst ocean carriers received a No 4 rating for timely and accurate bills of lading being a "constant problem".
OOCL said it received mid-to-best rankings from the shippers surveyed.
