Danaos Corporation says it has secured 18-year charters for the two remaining 6,500-TEU containerships that it ordered from Hanjin Heavy Industries.
The two ships are part of a five-vessel series that was ordered from the South Korean shipbuilders. Danaos is scheduled to take delivery of the remaining two ships that will be built in 2009 and 2010, reports the UK's Shipping Times.
"Following the recent deal we announced with Hanjin Heavy Industries regarding orders for five post-panamax vessels and the immediate chartering of three of these for 15 years each, we are now chartering the remaining two 6,500-TEU containerships for 18 years each on a bareboat basis, which eliminates operational expense risk. This chartering will increase our aggregate contracted revenue to approximately US$4.2 billion in total," said Danaous CEO John Coustas.
In a related development, the Danaos Corporation has also delivered a dry bulk carrier to Shanghai Time Shipping on schedule. The report said Danaos is expected to book a profit of US$15.7 million from the sale of this ship to its new owners at a price of $25.5 million.
Danaos Corporation currently owns a fleet of 31 containerships aggregating 138,931 TEU. |
