THE Port of Oakland recently played host to the 5,090-TEU Ital Lirica on her maiden voyage linking China and the US.
A port statement said the vessel, which underwent rigorous sea trials, sailed from Busan on Evergreen Line's CPS Service (CPS: China-south US westCoast-China Service), that features Oakland as a first inbound port-of-call from China.
The first in a series of post-panamax class vessels joining the CPS service, the Ital Lirica and her sister-ships are operated by Italia Maritima under the umbrella of the Evergreen group.
These new vessels will significantly increase the capacity of Evergreen Line's service to the US west coast, and the Port of Oakland's volume of import intermodal cargo.
The vessel called at the Ben E Nutter Terminal in Oakland operated bySeaside Transportation Services.
The captain of the Ital Lirica, Salvatore d'Esposito, received the traditional Bear of Oakland plaque from Dan Westerlin, special assistant to the executive director (Port of Oakland) and Annie Kang, chief representative - China for the Port of Oakland.
