A NEW container terminal scheduled to open this June in Gdansk, Poland will be installing management software supplied by New Zealand's Jade Software.
The IT software provider said the deal with terminal developer and operator, DCT Gdansk, is worth "multi-millions over a multi-year contract", reports New Zealand's National Business Review.
Jade Software's marketing manager Gavin Mitchell said the company landed the deal in part because of the comparatively small size of New Zealand port's where Jade's management software is deployed.
"New Zealand ports are multi-functional, which means that we've been exposed to a wide range of port operation issues, albeit on a smaller scale."
The Gdansk terminal has an annual box handling capacity of 500,000 TEU which is nearly double that of Lyttelton Port in New Zealand. Once the second phase of the Polish port comes on stream, total annual capacity will rise to one million TEU, meaning it will overtake the Port of Auckland in terms of its capacity.
So far around 20 ports worldwide use the Jade Master Terminal management software, and Gdansk will rank as the largest of these ports, the report added.
