Lufthansa Cargo has been awarded IOSA accreditation after successfully undergoing a five-day audit into its flight safety standards.
The IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) Programme was initiated by the International Air Transport Association in 2003 in a bid to enhance operational flight safety. Up to now, IOSA registration has been achieved by 144 airlines, among them 121 IATA members, said a Lufthansa Cargo statement.
"IOSA registration evidences Lufthansa Cargo's firm commitment to implementation and ongoing improvement of uniform flight safety standards in the airline industry," said Lufthansa Cargo board member of operations, Karl-Heinz Koepfle.
The IOSA Programme has become the auditing benchmark for global safety management across the aviation industry. The benefits of an IOSA audit lie in the use of worldwide-standardised checklists, which provide comparable criteria to evaluate diverse aspects of flight safety. The audit encompasses flight operations, ground handling, cargo operations, crew training, maintenance and operational security.
The IOSA certificate will be presented officially to Lufthansa Cargo by an IATA representative in June 2007.
