Hanjin Shipping to diversify business portfolio on back of solid earnings

SOUTH KOREA's Hanjin Shipping says it recorded an operating income of KRW149.1 billion (US$157.58 million) for 2006.
Ordinary income amounted to KRW623.8 trillion on revenues of KRW6.05 trillion. The company has also approved a dividend for shareholders.
"Our business goal for 2007 is to earn US$6.95 billion with US$268 million in operating income. We will make 2007 the year that sets the foundation for becoming a premier global logistics company," said president and CEO JW Park.
To achieve this, Hanjin Shipping will provide custom services and reduce logistics costs by achieving economies of scale through such measures as fleet usage optimisation.
The company also intends to secure more solid business by expanding into terminal operations, third party logistics, repair and vessel management businesses as it strives to diversify its portfolio of service offerings.
