A New customs clearance process called "customs application at local customs offices to get cargo released at ports" has boosted container throughput of Fuzhou port, according to a report in Logistics Week.

Fuzhou's annual container throughput breached one million TEU last year, making it one of the 12 largest container ports in China and one of the top 100 in the world, the report said.

Fuzhou customs implemented the new clearance scheme in July, 2004, and later it expanded in 2006 to cover the Strait West Bank Economic Zone, which includes Xiamen.

Last month, the scheme was further expanded to cover Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shantou, Nanchang, Wuhan, Changsha, Guiyang and Yinchuan.

Statistics show that Fuzhou customs dealt with 25,347 declarations under the new scheme in the first 11 months of last year, up 110 per cent year on year, the report added.
