Lianyungang handled 60,000 TEU sea-rail intermodal boxes in 2006
POSTED: 11:56 a.m. EDT, February 7,2007

The Port of Lianyungang's New Oriental Container Terminal handled the most sea-rail intermodal container transshipments among all mainland ports last year - 60,000 TEU.

The port was recently named the only five-star port in China. A container rail service from Lianyungang to Zhengzhou, Xian, Chengdu and Alashankou has attracted many companies from home and abroad, reported Xinhua.

In a port election launched by www.shippingchina.com, internet users voted for their favourite port according to throughput, capacity and service quality.

Lianyungang was selected as the only five-star port. The Port of Qingdao, Tianjin and Yingkou were named four-star, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Dalian, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Guangzhou, Keelung, Xiamen, Taichung and Shenzhen were selected as three-star ports.
