AP Moller-Maersk has held a name-giving ceremony for its latest newbuild, a 1,100 TEU vessel that is the third in a series of four similar type vessels that were built by the China Changjiang National Shipping Jinling Shipyard in Jiangsu province.
The christening ceremony, at which the ship was named the Maersk Ronneby, was attended by 150 guests, including officials from Jiangsu province and Nanjing municipal governments, the CEO of AP Moller-Maersk in the Greater China area, Tom Behrens-Sorensen.
Having placed orders for 82 large ocean-going vessels from Chinese shipyards since 1996, AP Moller-Maersk is the leading overseas buyer of ships in China.
The company is represented in the Greater China area through 100 offices at 45 locations on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia, employing 8,500 staff in the region.
