Lufthansa benefits from St Valentines' Day demand
POSTED: 9:59 a.m. EDT, February 22,2007

Lufthansa Cargo airfreighted around 1,000 tonnes of roses to Europe in the weeks leading up to Valentine's Day on 14 February. The majority of roses were moved from Kenya, Ecuador and Colombia at a constant transport temperature of between two and four degrees Celsius throughout the logistics chain.

According to Lufthansa, Kenya is still the dominant player in the global flower business. In the first few days of February, Lufthansa Cargo flew around 540 tonnes of flowers from Nairobi to Europe. Around 460 tonnes originated from Ecuador and Colombia.
