Guangzhou Port Cargo Throughput Hit 300mn Tons

The Port of Guangzhou, a leading hub port in Southern China, reached a cargo throughput of 302 million tons in 2006, ranking No. 3 among the Chinese coastal ports.

Meanwhile, its container throughput surpassed 6.6 million TEUs, ranking No. 5 in the whole country.

Danmark-based Maersk Line, NKY Logistics, one of the fast growing logistics companies in the UK, COSCO Group and China Shipping (Group) Company have successively cooperated with the Port of Guangzhou on port construction.

The port accomplished the construction of 22 berths in 2006, including eight 10,000-ton berths. Now, it has totally had 639 berths. Of these berths, 59 are 10,000-ton berths.

In the following years, the port will focus on bulk cargo transit and container transportation and gradually develop into the largest comprehensive port in South China.

The port's cargo throughput and container throughput will respectively outnumber 350 tons and 10 million TEUs in 2010, according to forecast.
