Horizon Lines uses cargo tracking technology to monitor boxes
POSTED: 8:45 a.m. EDT, January 24,2007

Horizon Lines is installing a new intermodal radio-frequency identification system developed by its IT subsidiary, Horizon Services Group, on its fleet of containers serving the Alaskan trade.

The technology is designed to provide customers with real-time visibility to track the movement of their shipments throughout transit, reported the Charlotte Business Journal of North Carolina.

It said Horizon operates a fleet of 16 container ships, moving about 22,400 TEU each year. The shipping line's major clients include Wal-Mart and Costco.
