South Korea's airport security meets all requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the government said Sunday.
South Korea's Civil Aviation Safety Authority said standards at local airports were in compliance with all standards set by the international body.
The authority under the Ministry of Construction and Transportation said, without going into details, that it had sent ICAO a list of actions implemented to heighten security at air terminals nationwide. The global body forwarded 13 recommendations that it said could help ward off possible attacks on airlines.
Concerns about possible terrorists attempts to destroy passenger jets have become a key concern after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks against New York and Washington, D.C.
Officials said South Korea plans to tighten the control of liquids and gel-like substances being taken on board planes, and improve ties with neighbors including China and Japan to deal effectively with security threats.
