Third container terminal to increase JNP capacity 50%

Jawaharlal Nehru Port's third container terminal was inaugurated yesterday, a move set to boost container-handling capacity 50% at the port which already handles 58% of India's total container traffic.

The Gateway Terminals India facility ¨C a 74:26 joint venture between AP Moller Terminals and Container Corporation of India (Concor) ¨C has been partially operating since March 2005, but is now fully operational.

The fully-fledged terminal has a 712m quay, and is designed to handle 1.3-1.5m teu annually.

APMT CEO Kim Fejfer said the third terminal had opened six months ahead of schedule.
