Maersk Hellas celebrates 10 years in the Greek market
POSTED: 10:27 a.m. EDT, October 25,2007

Having recently introduced two new line services in Hellas, Maersk Line yesterday celebrated its 10-year mark of presence in the Greek market. Marc Niederer, Managing Director of Maersk Hellas, which is also responsible for the markets of Albania, FYROM and Cyprus, commented ''Maersk Hellas marks 10 years of presence and successful operation in Hellas and I’m quite happy that the company continues, through its two new services, to establish relationships of trustworthyness and reliability, both with its customers and its partners''.

Maersk Hellas currently employs 113 people, acting as General Agent of its parent company, Maersk Line. The company offers cover for the ports of Piraeus, Thessalonica, Heraclion (Crete) and Limassol (Cyprus). Maersk has introduced two new and very important services to the Greek market. Beginning in April of 2007, the first weekly service connects Piraeus with the markets of North China and Korea, with port calls scheduled every Friday. The other service, called Scan Med was introduced last July, connecting Piraeus with the Swedish port of Goetenborg, thus bringing closer the markets of Northern Europe, where Hellenic companies are rather active.

Maersk Line is part of the global group of APM Terminals-AP Moeller-Maersk, which currently occupies the No1 spot in the container shipping business, with a market share of 16.2%, followed by MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company). Besides Maersk Line, the Group also operates through Safmarine. The group controls a fleet of over 500 vessels, with a total capacity of 1,85 million TEUs. ''The Group took delivery of 32 vessels in 2006 and is expecting an additional 126 ships until 2010''said Mr.Niederer. Among the landmarks in AP Moeller-Maersk centennial history (founded in 1904), is of course the delivery of Emma Maersk, the largest vessel up to date worldwide, able to carry about 11,000 TEUs.
