SpiceJet looking at tier II cities for spreading wings

Low-cost airline SpiceJet is eyeing the tier II cities for possible expansion of its operational network.

The airline has proposed to start operating daily flights from Coimbatore to Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad and twice daily to Chennai from October 25.

Mr Kamal Hingorani, Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), SpiceJet, said the company would, with the induction of new Boeing 737¨C800 aircraft commence daily flights from Coimbatore within the next two days.

Coimbatore would be the 17th destination on SpiceJet network. While the flights between Coimbatore and Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai would be direct, the Coimbatore-Delhi flight would operate via Hyderabad.

On fleet size, he said ¡°we currently have 16 aircraft. The 17th aircraft for Coimbatore operations arrives tomorrow. By December 2008, we will have 24 aircraft.¡±

SpiceJet plans to add three aircrafts every year to its fleet over the next three years.
