The terminal site has become a hive of activity as a 200-strong workforce becomes familiar with the equipment, including three super post panamax cranes with a 22 container reach, 17 reach stackers to support container yard and intermodal on-dock double stack rail operations and 34 terminal tractors.
Canadian National Railways is filling part of the 20,000 feet of intermodal track on the terminal with many of the 2,200 rail cars the rail company has acquired, along with 50 new locomotives to move containers between Prince Rupert and the American Midwest.
The ports of Prince Rupert and Ningbo also signed a "Friendship Agreement", promising to exchange economic and technical information and collaborate on the development of shipping opportunities, including promoting shipping between the two ports.
