THE Swiss Federal Competition Commission (Weko) searched Panalpina's Basel official earlier this week in connection with alleged anti-trust activities.
A similar anti-trust investigation and search was conducted at Panalpina's US headquarters, said a company statement. The Swiss logistics giant said investigators were looking into the activities of the Association of Swiss Forwarders (Spedlogswiss).
Panalpina said it was not aware of any anti-trust violations it had committed, adding that it was co-operating with authorities.
The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) also raided the offices of the German forwarder Schenker near New York's JFK Airport, looking for evidence of illicit surcharges. "Employees were told to go home," one source told New York's Air Cargo News. "Exceptions were the managers and IT people who were ordered to turn over records."
