Lianyungang starts regular sea-rail intermodal service to Alashankou
POSTED: 8:58 a.m. EDT, December 5,2006
The mainland's coastal city of Lianyungang inaugurated regular container sea-rail intermodal service to the Xinjiang city of Alashankou on November 26, reported Xinhua.

There will be one train running from each end every day with a capacity of 96 TEU.

The sea-rail intermodal service from Lianyungang to Alashankou started in 1994, but became intermittent because of a lack of cargo source and train capacity.

In recent years, Lianyungang launched shipping services to Japan and Korea. As a result, an increasing number of companies in those countries have chosen to transport their cargoes to Central Asia via Lianyungang, stimulating the growth of demand for the intermodal service.
