TIANJIN port is on course to handle about 6m teu and 255m tonnes of freight this year, writes Keith Wallis in Hong Kong.

Tianjin Port (Group), which took over running Tianjin in 2004, said box volumes would soar by 1.1m teu, buoyed by port expansion and growth in cargo. General cargo volumes have climbed by 15m tonnes this year.

Company president Yu Rumin said Yuan36bn ($4.6bn) would be spent on port and infrastructure facilities over the next five years.
