NYK Launches First of 8 Biggest Boxships
POSTED: 9:09 a.m. EDT, December 22,2006
NYK has received the first of 8 of its newly-built 8,600-TEU containerships, "NYK Vega", from South Korea's Ulsan Shipyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries.

" NYK Vega" is one of 4 ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries. Four more are coming from IHI Marine United of Japan, said an NYK statement, SchedNet reports.

"NYK Vega", the largest containership in NYK's fleet, will help NYK respond to expanding demand, mainly from China, as well as enhance the company's cost-competitiveness. All eight ships will be built by early 2008 and assigned to the European route.
