NORTHWEST Airlines (NWA) plans to strengthen its present code-share arrangement with Korean Air to New York's JFK airport, building on its original agreement involving freight services from Anchorage.
"Northwest values its cargo cooperation with Korean, and would like to see it expand. We are currently working on adding JFK to the transload activity. After that, we will continue working with Korean to look for other win-win co-operation opportunities," said Jim Friedel, president of Northwest Cargo.
Both carriers started code-sharing in 2005 on freighter flights. They have recently expanded this agreement to seven international routes operated by Korean and six US routes by Northwest.
This latest agreement enables Northwest to offer main deck capacity on Atlanta routes, and raise its network without increasing flying costs. Apart from code-sharing and space swapping, both carriers also co-operate on cargo handling at Incheon and Anchorage airports.
