Rizhao's volume to exceed 100m tons from Jan-Nov '06
POSTED: 9:09 a.m. EDT, December 11,2006
CHINA's Port of Rizhao in southeastern Shandong province handled 100.16 million tons of cargo during the first 11 months of the year.

Rizhao Port Group chairman Du Chuanzhi was cited in a Xinhua News Agency report saying the port's long-term goal is to open more than 180 berths with a total capacity of 600 million tons.

To achieve this, Rizhao intends to expand its container handling capacity to 1.8 million TEU and its cargo handling volume to 200 million tons by the end of the decade.

The plan calls for the port group to expand its breakbulk capacity as well. By 2010, port authorities see Rizhao handling 80 million tons of metal ore, as well as 30 million tons of oil and liquid chemicals, state media said.
