POSTED: 8:58 a.m. EDT, September 7,2007
THE Chengdu Railway Container Terminal Co., next month will start building what is expected to be Asia's largest railway container facility in China's south western city of Chengdu.

According to the report on Chengdu government's web site, the project cost CNY2 billion (US$265 million) and will cover 200 hectares.

The first phase, which will have an annual capacity of one million TEU or 12 million tons, will be built the first quarter of 2008.

After construction of all three phases in 2020, the facility will be able to handle up to 2.2 to 2.5 million TEU or 25 million tons a year.

A large logistics park will be built next to the terminal to provide bonded warehousing, transshipping and distribution services.
