Jamaica's Kingston CT takes delivery of four China-made cranes
POSTED: 8:43 a.m. EDT, September 25,2007
JAMAICA's Kingston Container Terminal (KCT) has taken delivery of four new China-manufactured cranes, which arrived last week.

The four post-Panamax gantry cranes, together with two delivered in January this year, were constructed by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co., one of the world's largest manufacturers of quayside cranes.

The four cranes are part of KCT's US$240 million expansion project, which will be completed in 2009, when the capacity of KCT will be doubled to 3.2 million TEU, up from 1.5 million TEU in 2005.

The expansion project is expected to attract more ships coming through the Panama Canal, said Jamaican Transport Minister Michael Henry.

"This is because the Kingston hub, with its comprehensive transport network into the Americas, Caribbean, Europe and the Far East, is becoming increasingly attractive in the region," he said.
