Anhui plans to merge port of Wuhu and Maanshan

Eastern China province of Anhui plans to merge its two ports of Wuhu and Maanshan into one larger port, whose throughput is expected to surpass 100 million tons by 2010, according to an official quoted in a Xinhua report.

The two ports are both located on the Yangtze River and 48 kilometres apart. In 2006, Wuhu achieved a throughput of 40 million tons while port of Maanshan handled 30,000 tons.
