COSCO Pacific, the container terminal operator arm of the Cosco Group, has announced that profit attributable to shareholders of the company rose by 8.9 per cent in the first six months of the year ended June 30, to US$148.52 million.
The group's total container terminal throughput increased by 23 per cent over the first half of last year to 18,417,429 TEU.
According to a statement from the company its terminals in the Bohai Rim recorded an aggregate throughput of 8,181,025 TEU, an increase of 33.9 per cent year on year. Total throughput of the terminals in the Yangtze River Delta region rose by 2.4 per cent to 3,881,561 TEU. Terminals in the Pearl River Delta and the southeast coastal region of the mainland recorded an increase in total throughput of 22.9 per cent to 5,588,253 TEU.
Overseas terminals volume rose 45.5 per cent to 766,590 TEU, while total throughput in China grew by 22.9 per cent over the first half of 2006 to 16,744,250 TEU.
Net profit contribution from the terminals and related business rose 38.1 per cent to $62,010,000 during the first six months of 2007, and comes as the total number of berths operated by Cosco Pacific grew by 15 to 119 across 24 terminal joint ventures. The number of container berths amounted to 113, plus two automobile berths and four multipurpose berths.
The total annual handling capacity recorded an increase of 10.3 per cent to 63,000,000 TEU, up from 57,100,000 TEU in the corresponding prior year period. The annual container handling capacity of operating berths increased by 24.9 per cent over last year to 39,600,000 TEU.
The group said it would dedicate the second half of the year to strengthening and expanding the terminal business and enhancing the profitability of its terminal business by increasing terminal investment with controlling rights, as well as by diversifying terminal portfolios. |
