Taizhou port's cargo throughput growth tops Yangtze ports
POSTED: 9:33 a.m. EDT, August 20,2007
Jiangsu's Taizhou port has recorded the fastest growth in cargo throughput among all the Yangtze River Delta ports.

In the first half of the year, its cargo throughput surged 46 per cent year on year to 19.59 million tons, Xinhua reports.

The cargo throughput growth of 46 per cent was 32 percentage points higher than the average growth of the top 13 Yangtze ports.

Taizhou is speeding up port construction this year, with the city spending CNY230 million (US$30.3 million) by the end of June on port construction projects, accounting for 71.7 per cent of the total capital investment for the year.

A proposal to build five 10,000-ton berths in the Gaogang port area's Yongan operation zone and Jingjiang port area's Xingang operation zone has been approved by authorities in Jiangsu. The new berths will bring an additional six million tons in capacity to these port areas, the report added.
