HONG KONG government-sponsored EPCglobal Hong Kong, a non-profit standards organisation on electronic gear for the supply chain industry, says it has completed a RFID pilot programme with Maersk Logistics.
"The pilot programme provides an applicable case not only for how logistics players can benefit from information visibility, but how real-time data sharing can bring economic benefit to Hong Kong," said Anna Lin, chief executive of EPCglobal Hong Kong.
A company statement said the programme tracked the location of cargo from China's Pearl River Delta to the US via Hong Kong in real time.
It also said EPCglobal assessed the business process, designing the EPC/RFID solution and provided implementation support for Maersk Logistics.
"Accurate and real-time data sharing is of strategic importance to logistics providers. The pilot was a good learning process that prepared us and helped equip us with the skill sets needed for this worldwide transformation," said Mr. Steffen Schiottz-Christensen, managing director, Maersk Logistics (China) Co.
