POSTED: 9:59 a.m. EDT, October 3,2007

EXPORT of empty containers for leasing and sale from Ningbo surged 92.8 per cent in the first eight months of this year to 147,000 boxes, Ningbo Customs statistics show.

The empties, most exported by foreign-invested companies, went mainly to Hong Kong, US and EU. These markets accounted for 78.8 per cent of the total.

Demand from shipping lines and container leasing companies for empties has been rising along with the booming of international trade and shipping market, the report said.
