EL AL, Israel's national airline, has appointed European Cargo Services (ECS) as its cargo general sales agent in Italy to market its Boeing 747 freighter capacity from Europe to the US and Asia.
Under the terms of the agreement, ECS will market the airline's Boeing 747F services to freight forwarders in Italy to generate traffic to be trucked to Amsterdam and Luxembourg to connect with EL AL's all-cargo flights to New York (JFK), Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong. The airline also operates scheduled cargo services to Almaty, Kazakhstan.
From its three locations in Italy in Rome, Malpensa and Linate, ECS expects to generate some 1.5 million kilogrammes of airfreight a year for EL AL. The new contract further extends the working partnership between the airline and ECS, which includes similar agreements in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
Carlo Gonzato, managing director of Globe Air Cargo Italy, part of ECS, said: "This is a prestigious contract for ECS in Italy to represent a leading airline with main deck cargo capacity. Our highly motivated team's expertise in managing and meeting the requirements of major carriers such as EL AL and our group's success in representing the airline elsewhere in Europe all contributed to us winning this contract."
