COSCO Sustainability Report Released

On the afternoon of December 20, 2006, the press conference for the release of 2005 Sustainable Development Report of COSCO Group was held in Beijing Ocean Plaza. The conference was attended by Hon. Chen Jinhua, President of China Enterprise Confederation (CEC), Chen Ying, Member of UN Global Compact Board and Deputy Director-General CEC, Guo Guorong, Deputy Director of Research Office of SASAC, Zhang Li, Deputy Director of Economy Operation Bureau of SDRC, Zhang Shouguo, Deputy Director-General of Water Transportation Dept of the Ministry of Communications, Gao Zhaojie, Vice-President of CCS, Fredercik C. Dubee, Senior Advisor of the US Global Compact Office, Peter Bjerager, COO of DNV Industry, and about 150 other guests from government, business, and media.

The conference was presided by Zhang Fusheng, Executive Vice-President of COSCO Group. On behalf of COSCO Group President, Li Yunpeng, Vice-President of COSCO Group, released the 2005 COSCO Sustainable Development Report and made a briefing about the content of the Report. After that, Capt. Wei described the process of COSCO's implementation of Global Compact and the accomplishments that COSCO has made through scientific development in respects of management innovation, resources-saving, and sustainable developments. President Chen Jinhua of China Enterprise Confederation highly commended COSCO's pioneering efforts, saying that the release of COSCO's sustainability report will help enhance COSCO's core business competitiveness, and that COSCO has set a perfect example of corporate citizenship that other Chinese enterprises can follow.

A question & answer session was held after the Releasing of Report. Capt. Wei Jiafu and other four group executives of COSCO answered a number of questions that were related to the Global Compact membership, social responsibility, fleet expansion and business performance of COSCO Group. The session was attended by more than 30 journalists from Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, CCTV, Ta Kung Pao (Hong Kong), Norway Business Daily, and etc.
