China Southern Airlines takes top award from Ascend
POSTED: 9:27 a.m. EDT, December 20,2006
CHINA Southern Airlines has won the "world's fastest expanding airline" accolade when it recently landed the 2006 First Class Award from Ascend, a provider of information and consultancy to the global aerospace industry.

Ascend judged the mainland's largest carrier the world's fastest expanding airline, after it took delivery of more than 50 aircraft in 2006, 30 per cent more than its closest rival, America's Southwest Airlines.

"China Southern Airlines' success underscores just how rapidly the industry is expanding in China. The sustained growth is driving the global industry and in taking delivery of more than 50 aircraft this year China Southern Airlines' growth is outstripping everyone's elses," said Gehan Talwatte, managing director of Ascend.

Additional honours went to Boeing and Airbus who share Ascend's Business Class award and second place on the podium. Boeing was recognised for orders for the 787 and 737, and Airbus was recognized for its expansion in China, and orders for its A320.

Ascend provides information to manufacturers, aircraft operators, insurers and financiers. It is based at London's Heathrow airport.
