The Pakistan government has granted permission for the export of 1,100 wheat containers impounded by customs at Karachi Port after the imposition of a ban on wheat exports, reported the Pak Tribune.
The containers holding PKR750 million (US$12.3 million) of wheat was to be exported to India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and Bangladesh, but were stopped at Karachi port after the ban was imposed.
While the ban is still in force, Food Minister Ismail Qureshi said that as these containers were already in transit before the ban was imposed and therefore could continue on their journey.
