Dubai International Airport (DIA) has won two international awards because of its efficient cargo operations at Dubai Cargo Village.
DIA was honoured with the Best Cargo Airport award in the over 500,000 tonnes category at the Air Cargo News Awards 2007 in London and as Middle East's best cargo centre at the Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards 2007 at Macau.
"It is an honour for us to be recognised in the international arena through continued performance year after year. Both publications are prestigious and the Awards are highly coveted in the cargo industry worldwide," Ali Jallaf, director of Dubai Cargo Village said.
"We have won over 24 regional and international awards over the past 15 years. With our growth continuing on the upward trend and our capacity in expansion drive, I am confident there are a lot of accolades waiting for us," he added.
Some 40,000 voters from within the cargo industry from over 100 countries polled for the Air Cargo News Awards.
The Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) are organised and presented by Cargo News Asia, and reflect the views of industry professionals in Asia on the best companies in the industry.
Dubai Cargo Village handled a total of 1,503,697.15 tonnes from January to December 2006 as compared to handling 1,315,875.85 tonnes in the same period 2005, a growth of 14.27 per cent. With the tonnage reaching 362,919 tonnes during January to March, representing a growth of 8.6 per cent over the corresponding period in 2006, the annual figure this year is expected to cross 1.7 million tonnes, the report said. |
