The Telecommunications Industry Association ("TIA"), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, submitted comments to the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) regarding the ITC's investigation, "Trade, Investment, and Industrial Policies in India: Effects on the U.S. Economy." The ITC is conducting an investigation regarding industrial policies of the Government of India that discriminate against U.S. imports and investment in order to support Indian domestic industries, and the effect that those barriers have on the U.S. economy and U.S. jobs.
"The telecommunications sector is an important contributor to India's continued economic growth and job creation through both domestic and export-oriented economic activities," TIA stated in its submission. "However, it must be noted that in order for India to enhance its competitiveness in the global ICT sector and to further encourage investment, the Government of India should continue a policy approach that is pro-competition and pro-growth, and not embrace policies that rely on protectionism."
