Foreign trade was a priority for Grodno Oblast enterprises in 2013. Merchandise trade reached $4 trillion. Export growth rate was ahead of import growth rate. Export grew by 13.7% from 2012, with Grodno Oblast boasting the country's second fastest export growth rate after Brest Oblast. Grodno Oblast secured a foreign trade surplus of $735.8 million.
According to the Governor, Grodno Oblast merchandise was shipped to 88 countries. The main partners were Russia, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, China, the USA, Lithuania, and Latvia. The export area was expanded thanks to the shipment of baby food, binocular glasses and monocles, vodka products, fresh potato, casein to Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gabon, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Mexico, Uruguay and other countries.
Yet the year 2013 indicates that the existing market outlets disallowing exporting as much merchandise as needed, which is why it is necessary to rethink the sales structure. Motivation, financial incentives for workers should become some of the key instruments for reaching new markets, believes the Grodno Oblast Governor.
Last year the oblast's export of services totaled $291.5 million, 80% up from 2012 (the country's best result). This year the most tangible increase is supposed to be secured by exporting more transport and construction services, which share in the oblast's total services is as large as about 90%.
